10 Longest Winning Streaks in the NBA
Every sports fan loves their team to go on long winning streaks. The fact of the matter is that in the NBA, there have been quite a few times when teams have won a few in a row, but when talking about long stretches of wins, they are relatively rare and quite newsworthy.
Below we have a list of the 10 longest winning streaks in NBA history, did your team make the list?
10. The Atlanta Hawks (2014-15)
The During the 2014-15 season, the Atlanta Hawks managed to post one of the longest winning streaks in NBA history by winning 19 consecutive games en route to a 60-22 overall record. The run started on December 27, 2014, and ended on February 2, 2015. That season, the Hawks made it all the way to the Eastern Conference finals where they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in four straight games.
9. The San Antonio Spurs (2013-14)
Just one season before the Hawks achieved 19 straight, the San Antonio Spurs did the same thing. Their run helped them achieve a 62-20 record. Turns out that was a very good Spurs team as they ended up as NBA champs thanks to beating the Cavaliers four games to one in the finals.
8. Boston Celtics (2008-09)
The third of four teams that has won 19 straight in the regular season, the Celtics posted a final record of 62-20 over the course of the 2008-2009 season. Once this juggernaut of a team made the playoffs, they proved to be beatable, losing to Orlando in seven games in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
7. Los Angeles Lakers (1999-00)
The last of the quartet that won 19 straight. The Lakers lost a grand total of 15 games over the course of the 1999-00 regular season. This Lakers team went on to win the league championship in seven games over the Indiana Pacers.
6. Milwaukee Bucks (1970-71)
The Milwaukee Bucks won 20 in a row over the course of the 1970-71 season and that is the only such run in the course of a single season. The Bucks who finished the regular season with a 66-16 record and were league champs.
5. Washington Capitals (1947-48 & 1948-49)
One of two teams on here that actually had their run stretch two years. They finished the 1947-48 season with five straight wins and then opened the next year with 15 straight victories.
4. Houston Rockets (2007-08)
The Rockets went on a 22 game run during the course of the 2007-08 season but finished the regular season with a 55-27 record overall. That team was bounced out of the playoffs in the first round by the Utah Jazz in six games.
3. Miami Heat (2012-13)
A Heat team that finished the year 66-16 won 27 straight at one point. Unsurprisingly, they also won the championship.
2. Golden State Warriors (2014-15 & 2015-16)
Another two years run on the list. The Warriors won their last four in one season and their first 24 in the next season in order to win 28 straight.
1. Los Angeles Lakers (1971-72)
The Lakers hold the National Basketball League record for most consecutive wins with 33. That year they finished with a record of 69-13. Yes, they won the championship as well.
