5 Games to Watch - NCAA Week 9

5 Games to Watch - NCAA Week 9

Georgia Tech (4-2) @ #7 Clemson (6-1)

    Saturday 10/28, 8 pm ET

    Memorial Stadium

Clemson is coming off a bye week after losing a tough came to Syracuse in the Carrier Dome.  They have a loaded schedule coming up with NC State, Florida State, South Carolina, and potentially Virginia Tech or Miami in the ACC Championship Game.  They need to get past this extremely tough Georgia Tech team if they want to defend their national title.  The Yellow Jackets have only lost 2 games this year (Tennessee and Miami) by a combined 2 points.  They have over 400 yards of offense in every game except the Miami game.  This game really will hinge on the discipline of the Clemson defense and whether or not Clemson QB, Kelly Bryant, is ok after getting knocked out of the Syracuse game.

    Prediction- Clemson 27, GT 24

#4 TCU (7-0) @ #25 Iowa State (5-2)

    Saturday 10/28, 3:30 pm ET

    Jack Trice Stadium

The Cyclones have the chance to really be spoilers here in the Big 12.  They are on a 3-game win streak with wins over Oklahoma and Texas Tech during that stretch.  They can compete with anyone in their conference on any given Saturday.  This week they have an extremely tough test with the Horned Frogs coming into town.  TCU is rolling and they look to be headed for the CFP if they can win out.  They have the best third-down efficiency in the nation, converting 59% of their third downs.  Iowa State is the worst team in the conference at stopping teams on third down.  Unless they can get a few turnovers, it could be a long game for the Cyclone defense.

Prediction- TCU 35, Iowa State 27

#14 NC State (6-1) @ #9 Notre Dame (6-1)

    Saturday 10/28, 3:30 pm ET

    Notre Dame Stadium

Both of these teams have CFP aspirations and both could still get there.  Notre Dame is really, really good.  They lost by 1 point to Georgia in Week 2.  They trounced USC and Michigan State.  They are averaging 318 yards rushing per game so far this season.  This team is a serious contender.  The NC State defense is no slouch, though.  They are holding their opponents to just three yards per carry.

Prediction- Notre Dame 28, NC State 24

#11 Oklahoma State (6-1) @ #22 West Virginia

    Saturday 10/28, 12:00 pm ET

    Milan Puskar Stadium

This is a Big 12 Championship eliminator game.  Both of these teams are really good.  Both of them have fantastic offenses that like to move quickly up and down the field.  The Cowboys put up the fifth most points per game in the nation (43.71); the Mountaineers are sixth (43.29).  Both of them have lost to the TCU Horned Frogs already.  The biggest difference between these two teams is on the defensive side of the ball.  OK State gives up 100 yards less per game than WVU does.  This game will have a plethora of highlight reel moments and will come down to who has the ball last.

Prediction- West Virginia 49, OK State 45

#2 Penn State (7-0) @ #6 Ohio State (6-1)

    Saturday 10/28, 3:30 pm ET

    Ohio Stadium

Last week Penn State manhandled Michigan.  Trace McSorley had 4 total TDs on 282 yards passing and 76 yards rushing.  Saquon Barkley had 3 total TDs on 108 yards rushing and 53 yards receiving.  That was against the number one defense in the nation.  Ohio State has been on a tear since losing to Oklahoma in September.  JT Barrett has thrown for 18 touchdowns in his last 5 games and the offense has scored over 50 points each of the last four games.  The Penn State defense leads the Big Ten in sacks and tackles for loss, something they will need to do against one of the hottest QBs in the nation right now.  The biggest X-factor in this game is, Ohio State coming off a bye.  Will the week off lead to a little bit of rust or will they be better rested and ready for this potent Penn State team?  This game just might be the Big 10 Championship game as the winner holds their destiny in their own hands.

Prediction- Penn State 21, Ohio State 17
