On Saturday August 26, 2017, a new college football season begins. Another season will be upon us and one thing is for sure, the NCAA and schools are about to get paid. How much money be will going around? To the tune of $7.3 billion, and yes, that's with a "b."
ESPN signed a 12-year contract for $7.3 billion which allows them rights to broadcast 7 games per year. These games include 4 major bowl games, 2 semi-final bowl games and the national championship - and that's just the start. There are also other TV deals, sponsorships, ticket sales, and the list goes on. The bottom line is, there is no shortage of money in college football.
Many schools have invested major cash in locking down top coaches for their teams. We all know that if a team does well, they'll make more money. It's nice to see that teams are paying the leaders of their money-making organizations substantially well. It's still staggering to see the size of the contracts the top college football coaches are signing. The question is, are they worth their salaries? Apparently the Big Ten, SEC and ACC think so.
