5 Games to Watch- Week 3

5 Games to Watch- Week 3

DANNY JACOBSON

Texas (1-1) @ #4 USC (2-0)

    Saturday 9/16 @ 8:30 ET

    LA Memorial Coliseum

    FOX

This matchup lost some of its luster when Maryland upset Texas in Week 1. But it’s still a matchup between two of the biggest programs in college football, their first meeting since the 2006 Rose Bowl.  For Texas, this can ease the pain of that loss to the Terps. For USC, this can be a trap game, in between the big victory over Stanford and the rest of their brutal PAC-12 schedule.

    Prediction- USC 45, Texas 35

#25 UCLA (2-0) @ Memphis (1-0)

    Saturday 9/16 @ 12 ET

    Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium

    ABC

UCLA goes on the road for the first time this season, where they have lost their last four.  Memphis has a solid offense that will test this Bruin defense.  The Tigers need to win this game since they missed out on their marquee matchup against UCF in the wake of Hurricane Irma.  Josh Rosen, UCLA’s star QB, finally seems to be playing up to his potential.  The battle against USC for supremacy in LA heats up if the Bruins can win here.

    Prediction- UCLA 34, Memphis 20

#12 LSU (2-0) @ Miss St (2-0)

    Saturday 9/16 @ 7 ET

    Davis Wade Stadium

    ESPN

LSU looks to be the second best team in the SEC, possibly the best.  They shut down BYU, not allowing them to cross the 50 yard line and then destroyed Chattanooga.  Mississippi St has looked nigh-unbeatable in their first two games of the season against Charleston Southern and Louisiana Tech.  This is a big jump up in competition for both teams.  It should be a defensive, physical battle royale.

Prediction- LSU 17, Miss St 13

#23 Tennessee (2-0) @ #24 Florida (0-1)

    Saturday 9/16 @ 3:30 ET

    Ben Hill Griffin Stadium

    CBS

This game already has the feeling of a division title eliminator in the SEC East.  Both of these teams need a win here to keep pace with Georgia and South Carolina.  Florida did not look good against Michigan in Week 1 before missing last week’s game due to natural disasters.  The offense needs to prove themselves.  Tennessee has had some great recruiting classes the last few years without a ton of results to show for it.  This is the time to announce themselves to the rest of the division, conference, and nation.

    Prediction- Florida 21, Tennessee 14

#3 Clemson (2-0) @ #14 Louisville (2-0)

    Saturday 9/16 @ 8 pm ET

    Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium

    ABC

The reigning Heisman trophy winner welcomes the reigning national champions.  If Lamar Jackson would like to put his name at the top of the list to win the Heisman again, he needs to lead the Cardinals to a win.  Clemson sacked Auburn 11 times last week and will want to stop Jackson before he can get comfortable.  The Tigers not only have an aggressive defense but a solid offense to match.  This game will provide lots of highlight reel plays and should be an amazing game.

    Prediction- Clemson 38, Louisville 31
