Intriguing Week 8 NCAA Matchups and Week 7 Recap

CHRISTIAN CRABTREE

I’m not sure that I can cover this crazy weekend of Football in one article. But I’ll make an attempt.

First off, 4 of the top 10 teams were upset!

Starting the week off right was Syracuse, who shocked #2 Clemson at home with a late field goal and a key 4th down stop for a 27-24 victory.

Along with this upset, #8 Washington State was steam rolled by Cal 37-3 on Friday night. 5 interceptions and 2 lost fumbles, it just wasn’t the Cougar’s night.

This weekend wasn’t a good one for the state of Washington as the Huskies fell to the 2-3 Arizona State Sun Devils 13-7. A pair of field goal misses from 27 and 21 yards by the Huskies and a 4th down conversion in the final 2 minutes sealed the game for ASU.

#10 Auburn fell to LSU 27-23 in Baton Rouge. LSU stormed back from a 20-point deficit to overtake Auburn with 2 field goals in the last 2:36.

Now let’s take a look at Week 8 and some potential key matchups:

#10 Oklahoma State vs. Texas

Saturday, October 21st 12:00 ET

Texas is popular in our matchups as of late. Mainly because of their ability to hang with the great teams. After just falling short against OU, the Longhorns should come out strong against a charging 5-1 Sooners team.

Syracuse vs. #8 Miami

Saturday, October 21st 3:30 ET

If Syracuse can beat #2 Clemson, you had better believe that they believe they can beat #8 Miami. Depending on what Syracuse team shows up they definitely have a shot at a Miami team who squeaked by Georgia Tech on Saturday.

#19 Michigan vs. #2 Penn State

Saturday, October 21st 7:30 ET

The battle between these two Big Ten teams is much more than your average matchup. This game has National Title implications for Penn State and maybe, just maybe, Michigan. A home win for Penn State would keep them high in the discussion for the Playoff and move them one step closer to pulling their program from the dark place it was back in 2012.

#11 USC vs. #13 Notre Dame

Saturday, October 21st 7:30 ET

Coming off a bye week, Notre Dame will look to break USC’s dream of making it to the College Football Playoff with a win in South Bend. Notre Dame’s only blemish is a 1pt loss to #3 Georgia in the first game of the season, while USC fell to then #16 WSU by a field goal. Both teams need a win to keep their playoff hopes alive but only one can come out on top.
